Bishop Peter Chifukwa with children from Bangwe Parish

The Catholic Bishops in Malawi selected the diocese of Dedza to take a leading role in the activities of the National celebration of Epiphany in Malawi. That means the national celebration of Epiphany will take place in the diocese of Dedza on the 8th of January 2023.

In preparation for this significant function, the diocese of Dedza, on the 6th of November 2022 launched the preparations for the Epiphany celebration in a colourful way. The function started with praying the Mission Rosary led by children from the Diocese of Dedza and the Archdiocese of Blantyre.

Before the start of the actual Mass, there was a ceremony of handing over the Epiphany candle and the Rosary to the Diocese of Dedza. The children of the Archdiocese of Blantyre led by the Diocesan PMS director Fr. Matias Thawani and the animators gave the candle and the Rosary to the children of the Diocese of Dedza. The children of Dedza Diocese in turn gave them to the Bishop of the Diocese of Dedza accepting the responsibility of leading the National activities of Epiphany from the 6th of November 2022 to next year November 2023 when the diocese of Dedza will hand over to another Diocese. Blantyre archdiocese led the national activities of Epiphany from November 2021 to November 6, 2022.

The mass was led by the bishop of Dedza Rt. Rev Peter Chifukwa. The National PMS director Fr. Vincent Mwakhwawa, Diocesan PMS director of Blantyre Fr. Thawani and Dedza, The Vicar general Msgr John Chithonje, Pastoral secretary Fr. Joseph Biliati, Bishop secretary Fr. Mtasa, the treasurer general Fr. Mbocho, Fr Chombwe, and Fr. Kasawa were part of this celebration.

In the speeches, Msgr Fr. John Chithonje, the parish priest of Dedza parish accepted that Dedza parish will take the leading role on behalf of all the parishes in the diocese of Dedza. He, therefore, called all the Christians to prepare well for this big celebration.
