Right Rev. Peter Adrian Chifukwa
Bishop of the Diocese of Dedza
Right Rev Peter Adrian Chifukwa was appointed as Bishop of Diocese of Dedza by Pope Francis on 8th May 2021 and consecrated on 28th August 2021. His Motto is “I am the way, the truth and the life – John 14: 6a”
Bishop Peter Chifukwa hails from Msampha village T/A Kaphuka, Dedza. He was born on 27th August 1973, to Adrian Chifukwa and Magret Basikolo. He is third born in a family of five girls and three boys. He was raised in a Catholic family. He attended his primary education in the following schools; Mzokoto, Embombeni, Salima LEA primary schools and Kalinyeke Model Primary School until 1990. From 1991 to 1994, he attended his secondary education at Mchisu Community Day Secondary School.
Having successfully completed his secondary education, he joined St Anthony Major Seminary – Kachebere in Mchinji in September 1994 to start studying Philosophy as he began to study for the priesthood until 1997. He furthered on with his priestly studies when he joined St Peters Major Seminary later in 1997. After successful completion of theological studies, he was ordained a deacon on 20th December 2003. He was ordained a priest the following year on 12th June 2004 at Bembeke Cathedral.
From 2004 to 2005, he served at Dedza Parish as Assistant Parish priest. Later in 2005, he was appointed Parish priest of Ganya Parish- Kandeu where he ministered until 2007. Later the same year, he undertook a study leave to the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Nairobi, Kenya where he studied licentiate in Canon Law until 2010. From August 2010 to July 2011 he served as Bishop’s Secretary at Dedza. He was appointed Rector of St Kizito Minor Seminary, a post which he served from 2011 to date. Among other ecclesiastical duties, he was assigned to are: a member of Bishop’s counsellors; Judicial Vicarship, a ministry that looks after marriage annulments; and, Chaplain to the Presentation of the Virgin Mary Sisters.
