world day of the poor 2022 dedza diocese

To: Priests, Brothers, Sisters, Seminarians, Catechists, the Laity and all People of goodwill, Diocese of Dedza.

Dear Collaborators,

RE: CELEBRATION OF THE SIXTH WORLD DAY FOR THE POOR

Greetings in the Lord from the Pastoral Office.

With reference to the letter from the Episcopal Conference of Malawi dated 26th October 2022, we have all been reminded that Pope Francis, on 20th November 2016, in his Apostolic Letter, Misericordia Et Misera (Mercy with Misery), established the 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time, which is also the last Sunday before the Feast of Christ the King, as the WORLD DAY FOR THE POOR. This year, the day falls under the theme: “For your sake Christ became poor” (cf. 2 Corinthians 8:9).

To mark the day, the Archdiocese of Lilongwe has been tasked by the Episcopal Conference of Malawi to host the function on the National level.

In that way, particular Dioceses as well are being asked to celebrate this function in a special way, to identify the poor and therefore assist them. Here in Dedza, the Commissions are contributing to mark this day on the Diocesan level.

We, therefore, implore the commitment of particular Parishes, lay groups and institutions of the Diocese of Dedza to celebrate this day by helping the needy. One full week has been chosen to celebrate this important function from the 7th of November to the 13th of November, 2022.

May we also appeal to all People of goodwill and Parishes in solidarity with Dedza Diocese to take part in the care for the poor by considering making various little contributions in such forms as Sugar, Salt, Soap, Soya pieces, maize and money to support the activities of the day on the Diocesan level.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Fr Joseph Billiat
Pastoral Coordinator
