A profound moment of vocation, sacrifice and service marked the celebration of 125 years of the permanent establishment of the Catholic Church in Malawi at Nzama on Saturday, 19 September 2026.
Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu, Special Delegate of Pope Leo XIV, ordained Deacons Timothy Tendai Chimbiya and Peter Bengo to the priesthood — Fr. Chimbiya for the diocesan clergy and Fr. Bengo for the Salesians of Don Bosco.
The celebration also honoured Rev. Fr. Sylvester Kansimbi, Spiritan, who marked 25 years of priestly ministry, giving thanks for a quarter-century of service to God and His people.
In his homily, Archbishop Nwachukwu reminded the newly ordained priests that their ministry is not about themselves, but about serving Christ and His people — preaching the Gospel, shepherding God’s people and celebrating the sacred Liturgy, following the example of Christ, the Good Shepherd, who came not to be served but to serve.
