Ntcheu, July 3, 2018: Catholic faithful in the diocese of Dedza will celebrate the ordination of two deacons to priesthood and a silver jubilee of two priests from the diocese on Saturday.
The two deacons, Samson Chembe and Peter Malupiya, will be ordained priests while Fathers Rodrick Ngowe and Remigius Kasawa will be celebrating 25 years of priesthood.
Speaking in an interview with Mana, Communications Secretary for Dedza diocese Father Henry Makawa said the function will take place at Sharpevalley parish in Ntcheu.
“We are currently doing final touches for the celebrations. We expect it to be a big event as you know that there will be ordination as well as silver jubilee. The function will be presided over by the Bishop of Zomba diocese Right Reverend George Tambala,” said Fr Makawa.
The ordination of the two priests will bring the total number of diocesan priests in the diocese to 53 which currently has 51 of them.
“This is a big event for the diocese and we expect to have faithful from all the districts that make up this diocese. We also expect Catholics from neighbouring dioceses to join us in celebrating this event,” said Makawa.
Deacons Chembe and Malupiya were ordained deaconate in 2017, while Fathers Kasawa and Ngowe were ordained priests on July 31, 1993 at Bembeke cathedral by Bishop Ziyaye.
Dedza diocese is comprised of Ntcheu, Dedza and part of Salima (Chipoka).
