On Saturday, 19 September 2026, thousands of Catholics and people of goodwill gathered at Nzama Primary School grounds in the Diocese of Dedza to celebrate 125 years of the permanent establishment of the Catholic Church in Malawi.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by His Grace Archbishop Fortunatus Nwachukwu, Special Delegate of Pope Leo XIV and Secretary of the Dicastery for Evangelization, in the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio to Malawi and Zambia, all Catholic Bishops in Malawi, and representatives from Zambia and Mozambique.

Part One | CUNIMA Hands over new Classroom Block
The first activity of the day saw Archbishop Nwachukwu officially inaugurate a new four-classroom block at St. Mary’s (Nzama) Catholic Primary School.
Constructed by The Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) at a cost of MK180 million, the facility provides a better learning environment for pupils and reflects the Church’s continued commitment to education and community development.
